Birth of Hanuman

Lord Hanuman is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva and is also called the son of the Wind God (Pawan Putra). His mother was Anjana, a devotee of Lord Shiva, and his father was Kesari. By the blessings of Lord Shiva and the grace of the Wind God, Hanuman was born. That is why he is also called Anjaneya and Pawanputra Hanuman.

Childhood Tales

As a child, Hanuman was very mischievous and extremely powerful. Once, feeling hungry, he mistook the rising sun for a ripe fruit and leaped to swallow it. This created chaos in the universe, and finally, the gods requested him to release the sun. From then on, he became known for his immense strength and divine powers.

Education and Blessings

Hanuman learned knowledge, strength, and wisdom from various sages and gods. He was blessed with the powers to change form at will, fly across the sky, and lift mountains.

Hanuman and Lord Rama

Hanuman is most famous as the greatest devotee of Lord Rama. When Sita, the wife of Rama, was abducted by the demon king Ravana, Hanuman played a vital role:

  • He crossed the ocean to Lanka by a mighty leap.
  • He met Sita in Ashoka Vatika and gave her Rama’s message.
  • He set Lanka ablaze with his burning tail.
  • He fought bravely in the battle against Ravana’s army.

The Sanjeevani Herb

During the battle, Rama’s brother Lakshmana was fatally injured. Hanuman was sent to fetch the Sanjeevani herb from the Himalayas. Unable to identify it, he lifted the entire mountain and brought it back, thus saving Lakshmana’s life.

Immortality

Pleased with his devotion, Lord Rama blessed Hanuman with immortality. He was granted the boon to live for eternity, to always protect the righteous, and to come to the aid of devotees whenever they call upon him with faith.


Significance of Hanuman

  • He symbolizes strength, courage, wisdom, and devotion.
  • He is known as Sankat Mochan (the remover of troubles).
  • Devotees worship him especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
